Amazing $89 training session on Adobe InDesign
This past spring, NOA was pleased to offer Adobe InDesign training by one of the country's leading experts on the topic, Kevin Slimp. News paginators, ad designers, and prepress staff benefited from this cost-effective training. Publishers saw an immediate return on their investment with improved quality and productivity. Half the day was spent learning InDesign tips and tricks, and the afternoon was spent understanding how to improve print quality.

NOA congratulates the Athol Daily News as winners of the 2013 print quality contest

Publishers looking for an honest evaluation of his or her print quality, couldn't find a better deal than the $25 entry fee for this year's NOA print quality contest. All entrants received a report from vendor and industry judges with specific areas for improvement. The Athol Daily News took top honors for having the fewest defects and a "nice clean sheet." The Newburyport Daily News placed second for "photos that really popped."

2013 NENPA / NOA Conference
Besides a jam-packed schedule of informative sessions, attendees won't soon forget Blizzard Nemo trapping some folks in Boston for the weekend.  Attendance was affected by the storm, but those that braved the weather appreciated invaluable sessions on three-around presses, US Postal changes, content revenue streams, digital presses, newspaper metrics, and mobile publishing.  NOA members with more diverse interests found themselves drawn to advertising and editorial sessions as well.   Please visit the photo gallery to see some pictures from the event.

2012 NENPA / NOA Conference
Our first joint venture with NENPA was a great success this past February.  The conference started with NOA Board Administrator Morley Piper being inducted into the newspaper hall of fame at this conference.   The board also sponsored a Saturday seminar on disaster recovery, that was well attended.

2011 Conference was well attended.

It was held Thursday, September 15 at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester, NH.     Many attendees said this centralized site made it easy to access.   The one-day format for sessions also made it easier to attend.   Last but not least, the new lower registration price and economical room rate was also greatly appreciated.

Conference topics included consolidation projects, digtal/print strategies, mobile apps & readers, three around press modifications, industry updates, and successful ideas implemented by other New England production departments.

2011 Spring Seminar Focused on Outsourced Production
The NOA organization teamed up with NENPA to present a seminar offering critical insight about the important issues and key factors that you must consider when making a decision about whether to outsource production.  The session offered guidance to help you evaluate your options, choose a printing partner and manage the transition.    Attendees were very appreciative to the speakers who shared their stories, and sparked a healthy discussion about the future of newspaper production and partnerships.

Participants included:
Terry Williams, publisher, Nashua Telegraph
Gary Farrugia, publisher/editor, The Day of New London
David Ehrhardt, vice president, Dario Designs

Fall 2010 Conference A HUGE Success

Vendors and Newspaper Executives are still talking about the Fall 2010 conference in North Hampton, Ma. Some newspapers have launched profitable magazines based on a session offered at the conference. Others have increased commercial print business thanks to a session devoted to the topic. And although capital is tight in 2011, several newspapers are making capital purchases based on information they learned at the 2010 NOA conference.
